Training Programs

Marlow Navigation Training Center runs three structured training programs following the framework for Controlled Accelerated Promotion: Deck and Engine Cadet Training Program, Culinary Apprenticeship Training Program and Electrical Cadet Training Program.

Deck and Engine Cadet Training Program

This programs is designed for deck and engine cadets who are groomed to become qualified and competent officers fo the Marlow fleet. The training program for cadets is composed of three training blocks consisting of lectures and practical work on ship-related taks, followed by cadetship/sea service as a rating for not less than six months. The cadets are trained to become proficient and competent in various tasks, passing through different ranks on the ship. During sea service, each cadet is tasked to accomplish training workbooks to document his training progress. On the last training block, cadets are assisted in their preparation for the licensure examination. The program is conducted for a cumulative period of three years.

Culinary Apprenticeship Training Program

This program designed for cook trainiees initially starts with four months of training, covering seven modules - Fundamentals of Cooking, Food Safety and Sanitation, Galley Administration, Practical Cooking, Baking and Pastry, Victualling and Stewarding. This is follwed by three months of training on board the ship before they are appointed as cook for six to seven months. After the first year of vessel assignment, the trainees return for upgrading until they are all appointed as chief cooks. Culinary trainees are also tasked to accomplish their training record books.

Electrical Cadet Training Program

The program consists of three training blocks. Initially, the electrical cadets undergo 11 weeks of on-shore training followed by six months of on-board training. After their first vessel assignment, they will undergo six weeks of training until they have completed the requirements for an Electro Technical Officer (ETO). On their second vessel assignment, they are appointed as electrotechnical rating for 10 months. Upon their return, they will be appointed as electro-technical officers on board upon completion of their identified training requirments.
